Fall into Scouting
WOW!!! Fall has snuck up on us fast and there is a Ton going on in Pack 29 in November and December. I hope all of our Old and New Cub Scouts are starting to “Fall into Scouting”. As we settle in to the scouting year, finish up our fundraisers, and start working on our badges, the true Spirit of Scouting starts to shine. Look out Fall, Pack 29 is ready!
But before we jump into these upcoming Holiday months, first, let’s get some Chatter going about that Fantastic Campout on Oct. 21-23. Camp Survivor was definitely a hit and it looked like all the boys had a blast. I have to say that the weather will make this campout a memorable one for sure:
- From a chilly evening where you could see every star, to a warming day allowing us to enjoy so much Fun and Learning, then ending the campfire with a low rumble and a light show. -
It’s Amazing how lighting can motivate 190 campers to tear down camp in RECORD TIME. Great Times! – Thank you Campout Committe
Coming up this month:
-November Pack Meeting: Bobcat Ceremony for our newest Scouts.
-Popcorn Distribution: dates to be announced soon
Fall Campout – Oct. 21-23
Fall Campout is fast approaching. The Campout is Oct. 21-23 at Natural Falls State Park in Oklahoma. To get to Natural Falls, take US412 west, 6 miles past West Siloam Springs, go South on N4680 Rd (large sign for the Park), turn left at the T and follow to Ranger Station on Right.
Please check in at the Ranger Station on arrival, before heading to the camping area. We are Pack 29 and camping in the Airy Tent area. Natural Falls State Park has many amenities, such as: Bathrooms, showers, firepits, water access, a playground and great Hiking trails.
Camp set up begins on Friday afternoon w/ official activities kicking off at 9am on Saturday. We will have lots of fun at our “Survivor” activities and the Campfire later that night. Please be sure to bring your Red Activity Shirt and your Class A uniform.
We will be doing a Service Project during our Campout, to help Natural Falls State Park. Pack 29 will provide gloves to the scouts, but we ask that Parents please provide their own gloves for the project.
Lastly, if you need suggestions on what to take camping, please check out the Camp Checklist in the Downloads page on www.bsapack29.com.
See you at Camp!
Popcorn Kickoff 2011
Tonight we announce the kickoff for the annual popcorn fundraiser. Here’s some help:
1. Safety first!
It bears repeating – scouts should sell only when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Scouts should never enter a stranger’s home when selling popcorn.
2. What is the goal?
The goal is for each scout to fill one order sheet. This allows the scout to attend the Fast Lanes lock-in/party. In terms of dollars, we are asking that families sell at least $350 in gross sales.
3. When are orders due to Pack 29?
Orders are due to your Den Leaders with all necessary monies on or before Tuesday, October 25th.
4. When should we collect the money?
Always collect the money up-front. The money is due to the pack when the order is received. You may turn in orders to your Den Leader any time they permit. In fact, turning in orders early will allow for early processing and the inevitable processing of bad checks. This is not required, though, just a suggestion.
5. When will we be able to deliver the popcorn?
We expect by the second week of November. We have not yet scheduled delivery to the Pack. However, after delivery, you should deliver to your customers promptly.
6. Where we will get the popcorn?
We are tentatively expecting to distribute the popcorn from a home near T.G. Smith. More details to follow…
7. What are the awards my boy will earn?
Boys will earn prizes outlined in the popcorn brochure. Additionally, the top 10 earners will be able to select a prize provided by the pack. The top earner will have first pick and so on.
8. Who is supposed to sell the popcorn?
All scouts in Pack 29 from Tigers to Webelos II should participate in the popcorn sale. Selling promotes many positive traits and skills, from exercise to learning how to communicate to counting money. Please involve your scout as much as possible.
9. Where should checks be written?
Write checks to ‘BSA Pack 29′.
10. Shy scout? Need tips?
Trail’s End, the company that provides our popcorn, provides many helpful tips on their website. Take a look at: http://www.trails-end.com/trailsend/scouts/
11. How do I sell online?
Scouts can setup an online account at http://www.trails-end.com/trailsend/scouts/login_register1.jsp. If you need help, you can contact the Popcorn Kernel. The unit type is ‘Pack’ and our unit number is ’0029′.
12. Who can I contact for more information?
The Popcorn Kernel for Pack 29 is Eric Roberts. He can be reached at rookhurst {at} gmail.com or 841-5794. All questions received will be responded to. If you are not receiving a return phone call with 48 hours, it is possible the return phone number was not understood clearly, so please try to make contact again.
